100 Years of Newport Beach Lifeguards

On Wednesday August 9th, the Newport Beach Historical Society is celebrating 100 years of Newport Beach Lifeguards. The celebration will include dinner, a raffle, a Ben Carlson film, and storytelling. The event will focus on the dedication, bravery, and commitment of Newport Beach Lifeguards throughout the last 100 years. The event begins at 5:30pm.  The event will be held at the Balboa Pavilion, located at 400 Main St in Newport Beach. Tunes at the Dunes 4th of July Weekend

Tunes at the Dunes is back.  Concerts are taking place at Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina. The next set of concerts takes place on 4th of July weekend. On July 1st, Tunes at the Dunes is featuring Cassie B. The July 2nd show is the ShowBiz Guys. On Saturday, July 3rd, Dance Party will be performing. Finally on Independence Day, July 4th, Tunes on the Dunes will be featuring The Dreamboats. The resort opens at 8am. Food trucks will be onsite beginning at 12pm. 28th Annual Balboa Island Parade

The 28th Annual Balboa Island Parade will be held on Sunday, June 4th, 2023. This year’s parade theme is “Horsin’ Around Island Style,” western island style, cowboy hats and aloha shirts. The parade kicks-off at a 11am. The parade begins on Marine Avenue and ends at the fire station. In its 28th year, the parade is filled with children on bikes, island dogs, decorated golf carts, floats, horses, vintage cars, the USC Marching Band, drill teams and local school marching bands. Immediately after the parade, the after party begins in front of the fire station, with the local band “The Fabulous Nomads.” The bridge closes at 10:45, so come over early. Balboa Island’s 27TH Annual Island Artwalk

Balboa Island’s 27TH Annual Island Artwalk is taking place on Sunday, May 21st, with over a mile of art and live music. The art show will feature local artists and musicians. There will be over 90 artists exhibiting photography, fine jewelry, paintings, blown glass and sculpture. There are three stages set up along the art walk, so visitors can enjoy music throughout the day.  The show opens at 9am and continues until 5pm. Laguna Beach is just south of Newport Beach in Orange County. Laguna Beach has over seven miles of pristine sandy beaches. The population of Laguna Beach is approximately 23,000 residents. The Easter Bunny arrives at 11 am each day. Monday through Saturday, Easter Bunny hours are 11am to 7pm, Sunday, until 6pm. On April 1st, 7th and 8th, hours are 10am to 7pm. 12th Annual Tomatomania! at Roger’s Gardens

The 12th Annual Tomatomania! at Roger’s Gardens is starting now. Beginning March 3rd, Tomatomania will be open daily from 9am to 6pm. Dubbed the world’s largest tomato sale, and of course the most fun offers up over 250 varieties of tomatoes to choose from. Varieties include determinate, indeterminate, heirloom, hybrid, and several new varieties for 2023.  There will be in-person and live streams throughout the event, to learn more about growing, using, and preserving tomatoes. Bach and Rock

Bach and Rock is back live and in-person. On Sunday, January 22nd, The Hutchins Consort will be performing at the Oasis Senior Center. The concert begins at 3pm and continues until 5pm.  The Hutchins Consort will be performing piece by Bach paired with Rock and Roll and Steve Huber’s new arrangement of the Who’s “Quadropenia.” The group uses eight scaled violins to create an incredible range of sounds.  The Oasis Senior Center is located at 801 Narcissus Drive in Corona del Mar. Nights of 1,000 Lights in December at Sherman Library and Gardens

Sherman Library and Gardens is hosting Nights of 1,000 Lights in December. Stroll through the gardens and enjoy the brilliant light display. This year’s theme is “Hooray for Hollywood.” Santa will be making appearances in the “Miracle on PCH” workshop. The garden shop will be open with many unique gift ideas. The first Night of 1,000 Lights is December 9th. The show runs for eleven, non-consecutive nights, ending on December 22nd. Each evening the show is open from 6pm to 9pm.
